When people seek out electric toothbrushes, their number one choice is normally the Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush series. This is due to the fact that these toothbrush series are known for their efficiency and high-performance levels.

We would, therefore, be comparing two toothbrushes in their series which are known for their high performances. These are the Sonicare 2 series and the Sonicare 3 series. While we have to admit that these toothbrushes are both very powerful and are the leading toothbrushes in the world we live in today, they both share features which are similar. This is probably because they are made from the same brand.

These two toothbrushes are both powerful toothbrushes and they have no doubt attracted a wide range of users from over all over the globe. For us to be able to compare the strengths and weakness of these toothbrushes clearly, we would be highlighting their various features and how each one compares to the other. These features include:

THEIR APPEARANCE AND DESIGN

When using both toothbrushes, you would immediately realize that both sets of toothbrush take the shape of a stereotype electric brush at first glance. This definitely means that they are very few buttons on the surface and are quite sleekly and smooth in nature. But, you would notice that they are different in one unique way. The 2 series has an anti-skid treatment which is absent in the 3 series. Also, the 2 series has only one button which controls switching on and off of the electric brush.

All electric toothbrushes have the LED light that shows the power usage. This is, however, different from the 3 series which also provides a button which affords the users with an additional LED light. This light is provided in order to allow you to pick different modes. Also, the 2 series can be purchased in a wide variety of colors (6 colors). These colors include sky blue, black, ultra-Coral, guacamole with traces of white, Ultra-coral with traces of white, steel blue with traces of white. This is different with the 3 series as it is only available in two colors—white and persian green,  which really make it a bit plain and predictable.

The prices of both toothbrushes are probably worth it. The 2 series toothbrush usually goes a price of $40-$70 depending on the location while the 3 series can be found and purchased for a price of $60-$90 depending on the location.

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TOOTHBRUSHES

UNIQUE STRENGTHS: The 2 series is a powerful toothbrush which is built for the removal of plaque in the teeth. This is exactly what it does as test results have proved that as it removes 6 times the amount of plaque. It also presents a new feature which is the form of a timer. The timer makes it possible to calculate the period of time used to brush your teeth. The recommended time to spend brushing your teeth is a minimum of 2 minutes. The timer can be set in such a way that it helps you achieve this timing regularly.

This is, however, not the case with the 3 series as it focuses more on having a lot of features instead of just focusing on one feature. One of such features is the intensity regulator which has been put in the 3 series. Users are now allowed to adjust the vibration levels when brushing. This is done by adjusting it between low, mid and high. It possesses such features while also adding the timer to its war chest. Smartimer encourages 2 minutes of brushing time which beeps after 30 seconds interval.

OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE: Every product produced has a goal and objective and this is no different from the Sonicare toothbrushes. For example, the 2 series was built with the purpose of reducing and controlling plaque which can be found in the teeth. This is, however different from the 3 series which is built for the main purpose of keeping the gums in a healthy state. For this sole reason, 3 series adds a new feature to its brush. This feature is a new brush head which purpose is to eliminate all plaques and other unwanted bacteria on the gums.

BATTERY LIFE: Comparing the battery life of each battery will give us a good idea of how long they would last. The 2 series provides its users with NiMH battery which is good to a large extent. The battery when fully charged is expected to up to 2 weeks. However, the 3 series blows this out of the water by having a much better battery in the form of Lithium ION battery which is just simply fantastic. The battery when fully charged is expected to last 3 weeks. This means in other words that the 3 series would outlive the 2 series and have a better recharge cycle than 2 series.

CONFIGURE:This 2 series’box includes 1 rechargeable toothbrush, 1 charger and 1 proresults plaque control brush head, while the 3 Series includes 1 rechargeable toothbrush for gum health , 1 small charger, 1 ProResults gum health brush head, and 1 plastic travel case. And as you see, the travel case can hold 1 brush handle and 2 brush heads, which can give you a huge convenience.

If these toothbrushes don’t cut it for you, then you can always go for the Oral-B’s Black 7000 toothbrush which is equal and even better than the Sonicare toothbrush. It has even been written and argued that this electric toothbrush is built in the form of a car. Some of its features include:

  • Deep clean mode which allows for a more thorough brushing
  • Tongue cleaning mode which focuses on the cleansing of the tongue
  • Whitening mode which focuses on the whitening of the teeth
  • It also contains Bluetooth technology which is really an upgrade from the 2 series and 3 series

This definitely makes the Oral-B’s toothbrush worth checking out.

While Sonicare 2 series and 3 series toothbrushes are uniquely different, it is important to consider the advantages and the problems associated with using this toothbrush.

ADVANTAGES

HIGH-PERFORMANCE LEVEL: Both toothbrushes are very efficient and are effective at the job they do. This is especially important as every day, more of the world’s popularity is getting interested in the electric toothbrush and many of these people may pick Sonicare toothbrushes as their first choice. They would thus be amazed at how efficient these toothbrushes are. For old users, it would certainly please them that these toothbrushes are living up to their expectations. Users can be confident that both brushes will be able to effectively clear the teeth and gums of all impurities and leave them in a sparkling clean state. You can be assured that the brushes are made in such a way that they are more sensitive to the nature of the gum of the user which will help avoid unnecessary injuries.

VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY: Both toothbrushes come with features which will help you make your brushing experience much more enjoyable. This is true in as much of the 2 series has basically only one extra feature which is the timer which has been discussed in details earlier. It is still quite a very remarkable feature. However, you can expect much more features from the use of the 3 series. The 3 series has such features as the ability to reduce the intensity of the vibrations. This is regulated by the three options which are low, mid, and high. This shows us that when it comes to doing the main of brushing the teeth and combining this with a few bonus feature, these toothbrushes are good choices.

QUITE AFFORDABLE: The prices of these toothbrushes would leave you feeling like you are in dreamland. The toothbrushes are now available at very affordable prices. However, this may not necessarily be the same for everyone bearing in mind that budget limits vary.  However, one thing is sure. These toothbrushes are available at prices which are very much in line with other toothbrushes which performance levels are close or on the same level as the Sonicare toothbrush. These toothbrushes are also available at discount prices which are great news for those who are on a restricted budget.

PROBLEMS

ABSENCE OF BLUETOOTH: One major problem which might even surprise users of electric toothbrushes which concerns this two toothbrushes is the lack of the Bluetooth technology. In the world we live in now, every electric toothbrush is expected to have an avenue of being connected to your mobile device. It is important to note that this is not really essential to having the toothbrush work efficiently. These toothbrushes are still very good. However, when you choose these toothbrushes, you have chosen to forgo the benefits of a toothbrush with Bluetooth technology. You should not expect anything more.

TOO PLAIN AND SIMPLE: Sometimes, a simple toothbrush may be what is attractive to you due to how easy it would be to use. However, there are some individuals who are more interested in having the latest technology installed on their toothbrush. Therefore, if you are someone who is interested in having devices with the latest technological advancements, then these handles may not be the right option for you. You would really be better off going for other toothbrushes

CONCLUSION/VERDICT

These are two great toothbrushes which will get the job done very effectively. The 2 series toothbrush is clearly cheaper than the 3 series. It offers features which would get your teeth shining. However, the 3 series just beat the 2 series. For me, the amazing features which come along with the 3 series just take it a grade above the 2 series. However, the truth is that it is really a matter of opinion as to which brush would be a better fit for you. However, you can be confident that whatever the option you choose or prefer, you can look forward to a better brushing experience when and if you choose to use the Sonicare toothbrush series.
